We have this room.

It is over the garage and according to our blueprints it is called the "bonus room".

We call it something different though.

{Sidebar: I love~hate frogs.

I hate real live frogs.

They terrify me.  We’re talking frozen-in-fear-screaming-at-the-top- of-my-lungs-like-I-am-dying terrified. Their hopping pattern is so do I know it won't jump across my foot?!?

But I love frogs.

Ceramic frogs that your best friend sends to you for your birthday a million years ago to hold the dish sponge, but you take to your classroom to hold post-its and think of her instead.

Anyway, The FROG. It stands for Family Room Over Garage.

Ours is the guest room.

So when the boys asked to decorate last week, I said yes. A thousand times yes.

However, it was a little too early for me to have Christmas downstairs.

So we took it to the FROG.

The theme: Frogs. Kids and Christmas cards.

My friends send out the loveliest Christmas cards.

Maybe people keep them through the season and then recycle them on January 1st.

But I, I think they are too special to toss.

So I keep them. And then I think, what can I do with these?

Make a few Miner adjustments and decorate a tree of course.

This year’s tree dons last year’s Christmas cards.

I smiled from ear to ear as I fit those cards in and the boys buzzed around hanging their ornaments. Mostly, too close to each other, but they are happily hanging there. This is their tree after all.

Our guests will love the warmth this tree brings to the room.

And the added "bonus"….there are no actual frogs hopping around.  No one wants to hear me scream.

  1. That looks like a fun tree? You have 2 trees???

    1. We do in deed have 2 trees this year. We are going big for Christmas 2013!

  2. Very cute Christmas tree! My family will be putting our Christmas tree up next weekend!

    1. Thank you, Lauren! Have fun putting up your tree!

  3. Hi. Just found your blog on FB. Look forward to following you. I'm a new blogger and also put up more than one tree (about 3-4 this year). I love your frog!

    1. Thank you, Dana! Ii am so glad you found me! I will check out your page too!

3-4 trees! That is awesome! Have fun!

  4. OMG I HATE frogs too! I am super scared of them for some reason too! I thought I was the only person who had this crazy fear, glad I'm not alone! I love the idea of decorating your upstairs guest room. We have a guest room upstairs too, and it has a super cute dormer window that would look great with a Christmas tree lit up in it. I just might have to do that next year.

    1. Ericka...we are not alone. I have a couple friends who feel the same way! So do not fear...well, yes fear, but think of us when spring arrives and they start hopping around the rain sidewalks. Oh, I shudder at the thought!

And I totally think you should put a tree in your dormer...that would look amazing from outside!

  5. Beautiful! Love it! And, I'm SO with you about frogs! When I lived in FL, they would get in our in the toilet, one in the shower, two in my was enough to do me in! I hate them!

    1. Thank you, Samantha! If I met a frog in my bedroom I think I would have a heart attack. I went to visit my friend in Myrtle Beach one year and there was a dead frog in the guest shower. I couldn't even go back in until it was gone!

      Merry Christmas!

  6. What a lovely room! I'd love a tree in my room ;)

    1. Thank you, Kathryn. I can't wait for my parents to see it in person when they come for Christmas!

  7. That dead frog in the shower was a mystery but very funny!

  8. I'm with you on the frogs. :)

Your room is beautiful! And I love the idea of using Christmas cards on the tree! Brilliant!

Have an awesome day rock star!
