My Eyes are Bigger Than my Stomach

Making our kitchen bigger is one of our main goals for the year. The kids are getting bigger. The hubs and I are tripping over each other. We can't take it any longer.

And this is our dream kitchen.

It's a beauty, isn't it? It is also out of our price range.  Ouch!

I knew it was going to be pricey, but didn't realize it would be unattainable.

So we came up with another idea. We were going to convert one stall in the garage into our bathroom, laundry room, and mudroom. Which would eliminate the 1/2 bath and mudroom closet, ultimately making a bigger kitchen.

We sent the idea to our contractor (who, by the way, is totally awesome). He liked it, did some measurements and said he would get back to us this week.

Today (5 days after our last meeting), I started to have a panic attack.  Everywhere I looked houses with a one car garage started sticking out like sore thumbs.

What if the front of the house doesn't look right?
What if I don't have enough room for my car to fit comfortably?
What if we can't sell the house later if it only has a one car garage?

{I was just having an average run of the mill FREAK OUT}.

So the hubs and I sat down and made some more Miner adjustments. We came up with the final plan. The last ditch effort. If this doesn't work, then well...I will cry.

But it won't be the end of the world, right?

What do you think of this plan?

We still get the big kitchen and we don't lose our garage.

Keep your fingers crossed that this is in our budget.  If not, we might just have to move.

    1. Thanks, Laura! When we built this house almost 10 years ago we didn't pay attention to the kitchen size or we didn't fully understand that blue prints make spaces seem larger than they really are....kinda like the rear view mirror!

Duh! Building a house 101. But hey we were young. And now we have the excitement of fixing it up.

  2. Would that be the only bathroom in this floor? If so, think about flip flopping the washer/dryer and powder room so guests don't have to see the laundry. Keeping the 2nd garage bay is smart!

  3. I think it's a good choice to keep the 2 car garage. Good luck getting it approved!
