A Six-Word Love Story…Hers
Remember the
movie, "Phenomenon"?
John Travolta (George) and
Kyra Sedgwick (Lace).
What a movie. I still cry every time I watch it.
Lace got really mad at George when she saw all the chairs she made, that he had bought, piled up in his house. She didn't yet understand that he was madly in love with her. That it was a metaphor for his love.
Towards the end when George was dying, Doc got fed up with Bains and the other guys gossiping about him.
Doc said to Bains, "Lace is sticking with him. You know why? Because he bought her chairs. It’s pretty smart to me. Did you ever buy Lisa’s chairs? You see, every woman has her chairs, something she needs to put herself into, Bains. Did you ever figure out what Lisa’s chairs were and buy 'em?"

Simply...George bought Lace's chairs.
When Matt and I started dating, it was the simple things that made me feel special, unlike anyone else I had ever dated.
When Matt and I started dating, it was the simple things that made me feel special, unlike anyone else I had ever dated.
Then after only knowing him for a month, he did something that was a huge risk.
He did something that most 24 year olds wouldn't think of doing for someone they just met.
He bought me 4 new tires for my car.
You see, he was in his first year of
teaching and I was in my senior year of college. He lived 3 hours away which meant driving to see each other on the
weekends.
And there came a
point when my tires were so bald that he was shocked one hadn't blown out on
the long, windy drive through the Adirondack mountains .
And I wasn't much for paying attention to the details of cars. If it ran and I had gas money, then it was a go.
So we hopped in
my car with its incredibly bald tires and went to our local Sears.
Without hesitation
he proceeded to buy me four new tires.
Not overly
romantic to most, but at that moment…
I knew that I would marry him.
4 new tires were
my chairs.
He was taking care of me.
He was taking care of me.
He was everything that I had been looking for.
He was my John
Travolta.
A couple years later I asked…”What if we had broken up? You know, after you spent all that money on my tires? It had only been a month.”
Matt looked me in the eyes and replied, “Well, I would have known that you were out there somewhere…safe.”
Not only did he buy my chairs, but he stole my heart too!
You married a rock star! I'm just sayin' :)
ReplyDeleteAlways, always love your stories. :)
Happy day to you!

Thank you! I couldn't agree more ;)
DeleteAw..... seriously awwww! He's a keeper for sure!
ReplyDeleteThanks Natalie! I love him...heart and soul.
DeleteThank you for sharing this beautiful story. He will make it hard for your daughters (I'm new here, don't know if you have children other than that cute little vacuum sweeper sweeper) to find men who fit in his shoes!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Actually I have 2 sons...no daughters. But I hope that they become as caring and thoughtful as he is!
